Obituary of SFC Omar Junior Halverson, U.S. Army,

Omar J. Halverson, age 80, a longtime resident of Widefield, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at a local hospital after a short battle with cancer. He had retired from the United States Army after serving his country for more than twenty years. He was a medic and respiratory therapist.Omar Junior Halverson was born on February 4, 1936 in Sterling Township, Wisconsin to the late Omar and Hazel (Wakefield) Halverson. He graduated from high school in Viroqua, Wisconsin and then entered the Army. He met his wife: Waltraud Maria Wallerius while stationed in Germany and later married her on August 22, 1956 in Hanau Main, Germany.Omar was also a respiratory therapist during his retirement and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed country western dancing, his collection of model cars and frequent visits to Cripple Creek.He is survived by his wife: Waltraud Maria of Widefield; his son: Rick (Cathy) Halverson of Brookeville, Maryland; his son-in-law: Amos Serna of Colorado Springs and his sister: Bonnie Erickson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.Omar has six wonderful grandchildren: Jason (and Melissa) Serna; Lisa Serna, Stacy (and Clint) Brickell; Collin Halverson, Michela Halverson and Andrew (and Leanna) Serna.
