Obituary of Shirley Eileen Janeba

Shirley Eileen (Wollam) Janeba, age 88, peacefully entered into eternal life October 16, 2016 surrounded by her family.Shirley was born on a farm in Clark County, Missouri, one of five sisters and one brother, growing up there and in Southeast Iowa. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1945, and followed her sisters to Rock Island, Illinois to work for the J.I. Case Company. There she met Clarence Janeba, whom she married on June 6, 1948.Shirley and Clarence started married life in Iowa City, Iowa and moved to the Chicago area a few years later. In 1964, a job change for Clarence took them and their three children to the Los Angeles area. Although mostly a stay-at-home mom who baked bread weekly and sewed prom dresses and band uniforms, Shirley later became a beautician and beauty college instructor. She also served on the Trinity Lutheran Altar Guild in Manhattan Beach, California, was active in Pilots Club and volunteered many hours at a senior assisted living center.Traveling most of the fifty states was a highlight of the Janebas' life together. Another highlight was their 50th anniversary trip to Europe. They always wanted to see what was "over the next hill" and had many adventures together! Upon retiring, they moved to Farmington, Iowa where they had relatives, many friends (old and new) and a big Craftsman style house that they renovated. Shirley tended her flower gardens, sewed, quilted, knitted, crocheted, canned, was an active PEO member and enjoyed small town life. Another joy of her life was her great-grandchildren. After her husband passed away, Shirley moved to Colorado to live with her daughter, Nora, in Denver and son, John, in Monument. Shirley was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Clarence Janeba; parents, Mabel and Riley Wollam; sisters, Helen Andrews, Ruth Wollam, Lois Polito, Annadeen Perkins Rooney; brother, Jerry Wollam; and grandson, Jeremy Olson. She is survived by her children, Nora Olson (David) Lasky of Denver, Colorado, John (Patsy) Janeba of Monument, Colorado, and Mark (Mary Lou) Janeba of Salem, Oregon; her grandchildren, Tanya Olson of Custer, South Dakota, Nicole Merrithew of Portland, Oregon, Danielle Jacoby of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, Josef Janeba of Denver, Colorado, Andrew Janeba of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Claire Janeba of Salem, Oregon; and by five great-grandchildren.
