Obituary
Obituary of Pastor James Henry Wells
Jim was born to Emil and Millie Wells in Sidney, Nebraska on October 25, 1936. His early years were spent in the Denver area where his father worked. When family used to come and visit, he would take them on the bus and give them tours of the downtown area. Eventually, his folks moved to Peetz, Colorado to farm the family land. Jim graduated from Peetz High School. He worked several jobs, including working at JC Penny selling shoes. He met the love of his life, Charlene, at the roller skating rink. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, and before he left for boot camp, he proposed. After Charlene graduated from high school, they married on May 26, 1957. The two headed for Twentynine Palms, California, where Jim finished his short tour of duty. After he was discharged from the Marines, Jim decided to go to Barber School and worked in the Denver area for about three years. He then moved back to Sterling and opened a barber shop with his brother, Gary. During this time, he and Charlene started going to church and personally experienced and met the love of Jesus. Shortly thereafter, he felt the Lord was calling him into the ministry to be a pastor. He completed his AA degree at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and then started commuting to Denver to attend Rockmont College (now Colorado Christian University) and eventually earned a Masters in Theology. While going to school, he continued to barber, AND he started pastoring a small church in New Raymer, Colorado, where he ministered for four years. He then pastored a church in Boulder, Colorado for two years before moving to Colorado Springs, where he accepted a pastorship that lasted for thirty-eight years. Upon retiring in July of 2013, he and Charlene moved to Fort Morgan and have been there since. After a brief struggle with leukemia, Jim crossed over into GLORY on October 19, 2016. On his last day on earth while he was communing with God, he said three things that will remain with us forever: "I'm going." "I'm sorry." "I SEE IT!" Jim is now at peace and out of pain. Even though he always questioned whether he was a successful pastor, we know he touched countless lives and led many to the saving grace of Jesus. We are confident upon his entrance to Heaven that he heard, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!" He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Lynda Wells. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, Charlene; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Glen Mireles; favorite granddaughter and husband, Trista and Trever Mese; favorite grandson, Jacob Wells; and great-grandchildren Alexis and Talyn Mese. We will miss his warm hands and smile. We will miss hearing him play his many instruments and sing. We will miss hearing his words of wisdom. We will miss his sense of humor and hardy laugh. Oh, there are so many things we will miss. But what peace and joy we have in knowing that he is right where he wants to be . . . IN THE PRESENCE OF JESUS. There will be two services celebrating Jim's life and promotion: 2:00PM, Monday, October 24, 2016 at Turning Point Christian Outreach Center, 320 North 4th Street, Sterling, Colorado 80751.2:00PM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Gethsemane Christian Fellowship, 1628 North Babcock Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80915.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
