Obituary of Maj. Kenneth Anthony Lavin, Ed.D
Kenneth A. Lavin, 69, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born in Hamburg, Germany on June 1, 1947. He came to the United States at the age of 12 in 1959. After graduating from William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey, he married Bonnie Lee White in 1971. They were happily married for forty-five years and have three children and eight grandchildren. After teaching eighth grade for nine years, Ken joined the Air Force in 1980 and was stationed at EAFB, Rapid City, South Dakota as a missile launch officer and instructor. Five years later, he was selected to teach German at The Air Force Academy. After retiring from the military, Dr. Lavin continued to work as an associate professor and scholarship advisor at this his favorite institution. In 2012, Ken completely retired and spent his time traveling and entertaining his grandchildren. Ken is survived by his wife Bonnie; three children, Beth (Rob) Breisch, Karin (Grant) Huffine, and Michael (Sara) Lavin; and eight grandchildren, Ben, Ethan, Emily, Ryan, Alissa, Tyler, Carly, and Reese. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Michael, and a granddaughter, Natalie Ann.Memorial Service, 1:00PM, Monday, December 5, 2016 at The Air Force Academy Catholic Cadet Chapel, 2306 Sijan Drive, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado 80840. A reception will follow at Doolittle Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ken's memory to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region or to Care and Share Food Bank of Colorado.
