Obituary of Lorraine Veith Simpson

Lorraine Veith Simpson, 85, affectionately known as "Granny," died in her Colorado Springs home from natural causes on Monday, November 28, 2016. She was born to Henry and Lottie Veith in Schenectady, New York on July 14, 1931.Lorraine graduated from Schenectady-Draper High School in 1949 and was offered a full scholarship to Purdue University in Indiana to pursue an education in fine arts. She turned it down to pursue a more practical career path and earned an associates degree in business administration from Mildred Elley College in Albany, New York. After graduation, she was hired as a secretary for the Physics Program at General Electric Corporation and published a monthly newsletter for them. It was there she met her husband, Jack, while he was working in the program. They married on April 5, 1952.Shortly after that, Jack and Lorraine moved to Oak Ridge, then Idaho Falls, and finally to Cincinnati with General Electric, where they settled in the Greenhills area and raised their two sons, Kenneth and James. She was an active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church off Winton Road, and managed the nearby Stretch and Sew fabric and sewing store from 1974 - 1991.Jack and Lorraine lived in Cincinnati until Jack passed away in 2007. In 2010, Lorraine moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be closer to family. There she was a resident of MacKenzie Place Assisted Living where she enjoyed the stunning views of Pikes Peak and made many new friends. Her health improved steadily after she arrived in Colorado and she began to flourish, growing younger every year, and enjoying life to the fullest. Lorraine was devoted to her family and continued to develop her artistic talents throughout her life. She was an expert seamstress, and created beautiful clothing and quilts for herself and her family. She was also a prolific tole painter. Some of her most beautiful work is evident in the unique Christmas and Halloween decorations she painted. In her most recent years, Lorraine fell in love with beading and created hundreds of beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry. She also worked tirelessly to create American Doll clothes for her sister Karen's craft business. Survivors include her sons, Kenneth (Linda) of Plano, Texas, and James (Charise) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughters, Julia and Danica Simpson; grandsons, Kyle and Austin Simpson; sister, Karen Kreischer and niece, Charlene Kreischer of Niskayuna, New York, sister-in-law, Linda Simpson Kemp and niece, Caroline Kemp of Irvine, California; and brother-in-law, Sid Henderson of Sacramento, California. Her husband, Jack; his parents; her parents; her brothers-in-law, Charles Kreischer and Art Kemp; and sister-in-law, Jeanie Henderson, preceded her in death. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at MacKenzie Place, 1605 Elm Creek View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.
