Obituary of Norma Jane Bockhahn
Norma Jane Gompert Bockhahn, 81, entered eternal life, peacefully, with her loving husband by her side on January 8, 2017. She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Dale Bockhahn; their children, Dailynn Bockhahn of Divide, and Lynda (Tom, Sr.) Baker of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Natalie (Nigel) Mutch, Jennifer Baker, Tom Jr. (Suly) Baker, Heidi Baker, and Hannah Baker; three great-grandchildren, Jey Mutch, Athena Reed, and Raymond Baker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by their son, Bruce Bockhahn; her brothers, Wesley Gompert, and Larry Gompert; and her sister, Barbara Durfee. Norma was born November 5, 1935 in Mitchell, Nebraska to the late Gerhardt and Florence Gompert. Her grandfather, Jacob Gompert, was one of the original settlers in the North Platte River area of Western Nebraska. He built the first wood house in the area about three miles north of Mitchell. As a child, she grew up in a loving family and extended family in a close-knit farming community. Thinking that he would be drafted into the Korean War, Norma Gompert married Dale Bockhahn on June 21, 1953. Her parents had to go to the Principal of her high school to make sure she could complete her senior year of high school married. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954. They moved around between Mitchell, Bridgeport, Alliance, and Scottsbluff in Nebraska, and also Denver, Colorado. After going back and forth, they returned to Colorado in 1965, where they settled in Colorado Springs and remained as residents for over fifty years. She lived in the same home for forty-seven years. As her health deteriorated, she moved into Pikes Peak Center, a nursing facility, where she received affectionate care. Dale stayed with her, moving into the nursing facility. Norma was the supervisor for the Sears Maintenance Agreement Department from 1967 until her retirement in 1988. She then worked at the Dillard's Salon in the Chapel Hills Mall from 1989 to 2005. She experienced a miracle, having survived a burst brain aneurysm and subsequent stroke in 2006. Her recovery was remarkable. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Prior to the stroke she enjoyed time with friends, and family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering at church, reading, playing cards, and doing daily crossword puzzles. After the stroke, she continued her love of spending time with her family, including her great-grandchildren and friends but no longer did crossword puzzles, or reading. She did, however, find a lot of enjoyment playing Skip Bo with anyone who would play with her. She usually won and gained the title of "Skip Bo Queen". She was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church from 1975 until 1997 and Holy Cross Lutheran Church from 1997 to present. Norma loved the Lord, and even though she had memory loss as a result of the aneurysm, she never forgot her faith. She said not to grieve her passing but to celebrate her entering eternal life. There will be a Celebration of Eternal Life Service, 11:00AM, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
