Robert VanderZwaag (Mr. Van). I fondly recall an elementary student who had an infectious smile and a joyful personality. He was a good friend of many at New Groningen Elementary Scool. I love hearing about former students, but not in this manner. May you feel an extra sense of God's presence during this time of loss.

Brian was a part of our friend group in high school. We would quite often pile into his car during lunch period and zip over to the gas station for pizza and pop. He had a snazzy stick shift wagon and would gun it every chance he could. If he had twelve feet ahead of him, that was enough for some speed and then a hard brake. He'd head bang the whole way to and from, to bands like GWAR, Tool, and Primus. Brian was always up for a laugh and a fun time. I very clearly remember when I turned 16, like the day after my birthday, driving him home and almost getting in an accident backing out of his driveway. It scared me to be more careful with this new driving privilege! I very much miss those days and am sad we didn't keep the friend group together after high school. Farewell buddy. You will be missed.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our son and brother. We were blessed to have Brian and his funny wit in our lives. We know he is now able to run like a deer, dance, and put his toes in the sand. He will be cooking up a feast for all of his family in heaven. We will keep his memories alive forever telling stories and his jokes. He had an infectious personality and great smile. We will love you forever!

It was my pleasure to have Brian as a student in my classroom while he was going through the electrical apprenticeship in West Michigan. He was a good student, apprentice, and later Journeyman as well as union brother. My condolences and best wishes for his family and those that were close to him.
