Obituary of Betty Maude Gibson

Betty Maude (Jacoby) Gibson passed away on January 30, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, of natural causes at 96 years old.Betty was born on Christmas Day, 1920 in O'Fallon, Missouri. When she was nine months old, her family moved to St. Charles, where her father became the County Engineer for St. Charles County. She graduated from St. Charles High School and then Lindenwood College with a BA in History. Betty married George "Hoot" Gibson in November 1940, and they raised their three children, first in High Ridge, Missouri, and then in Raytown, Missouri. She earned her Master's degree in History at Missouri University in Kansas City. Betty taught for twenty-four years in the Kansas City area, including being on the forefront of educational television with a televised class "Your Heritage As A Citizen" from 1959-1961. During her fifteen years as an instructor at Kansas City, Kansas Community College, she created and coordinated a program in Adult Care for Nursing Home Administrators. She later taught History for the University of Kansas.Following retirement, Betty and Hoot moved from Lake of the Forest at Bonner Springs, Kansas; to Lenoir Village in Columbia, Missouri; with subsequent moves to O'Fallon, Colorado Springs, back to Lenoir, and then to Colorado Springs again. Betty and Hoot were longtime owners and trainers of golden retrievers, spent significant time at their property in the Missouri Ozarks on the Black River, were avid genealogists, and traveled in their motor home to the East Coast and Southwest.Betty is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years. She is survived by her three children, Betty Denney, George, and David; daughter-in-law, Linda; five grandchildren, Tami, John (Nate), Ben, Elizabeth and Shaughnessy; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Geoff, Charles, Henry, Cassandra, Nora and Georgia.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Rock Church (Dardenne Presbyterian Church), 7400 South Outer 364, Dardenne Prairie, Missouri 63368.
