Obituary of Annie B. Tomlin

Annie B. Tomlin, age 102, passed away February 24, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Annie was born in Rising Star, Texas on May 19, 1914, the sixth of seven children. With World War I in full swing, her father decided to move closer to family in East Texas. They traveled by covered wagon, quite an adventure for a four-year-old. Her father, Frank C. Everett, and mother, Mamie Cox Everett, bought a small farm near a little community known as Doodleville. Annie attended schools in the area, including Jewett and Marquez High School, where she was a member of the Yellow Jacket Pep Squad. Due to serious illness, she had to leave school during her junior year. After a long convalescence, she moved to San Antonio where she met and married Arthur "Tommy" Tomlin on October 31, 1942.Their only child, Frances, was born in 1943. Annie stayed in San Antonio while Tommy served in World War II. After his return, they lived in San Antonio for more than fifty years. Tommy continued a military career until retirement when he joined the U.S. Postal Service. Annie began a successful real estate career in the 1950s until she retired in the early 1970s. During those years, she was a consummate homemaker, gardener, church worker, caregiver to her mother who lived to be 100, and member of the San Antonio Alpha Xi Delta Mother's Club. She valued education, and was proud to see her daughter achieve a Ph.D. from the University of Texas (Austin) in 1977. After nearly fifty-six years of marriage, Arthur passed away in 1998. In 2002, Annie moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be near her daughter. While in Colorado Springs, she has lived in a variety of retirement communities, including Belcaro, Summit Glen, Winslow Court, Bonaventure, and Country Club Assisted Living, making many friends along the way. She was also a member of the Eastside Church of Christ, and participated in a number of their activities including S.O.S. and Silver Saints. Annie was preceded in death by not only her parents, but all of her siblings—Lee Beddingfield, Margaret Ware, Olin (Ted) Everett, John Irby Everett, Francis Everett, nand Pat White. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Art Dudenhoeffer, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and their children. She will be buried with Tommy at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
