Obituary
Obituary of Kathryn "Ann" Lauer
Ann passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a hard-fought battle with neuroendocrine tumors (NET). To those who knew and loved her, she'll be remembered as a woman of beauty, ability, and generosity. Among her many special gifts, was her ability to connect with people (at times, instantly) through kindness, thoughtfulness, eloquence, wit, optimism, hospitality, and a genuine concern for each and every person who came into her life.Originally from Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the second of four daughters born to Harry and Elizabeth Harrington. She attended Catholic grade school, and graduated from St Joseph's Academy (1961). She continued to West Virginia University (1965), where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. After graduation, she pursued a teaching career and taught high school literature and journalism for three years in New York and in her hometown before she met her husband, Jim, a Naval Officer. They married in August of 1968 and set out on a loving and adventurous journey, one that lasted almost fifty years and took them all over the world.Ann loved God, her country, and her family without reservation. She had an unending love affair with her husband of forty-eight years, and found her greatest joy with him, her children, and her grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; her son, James "JJ"; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Lex Ivey; and two grandchildren. She is also survived by two dear sisters, Mary Ellen Humes of Lewes, Delaware, and Margaret Hazlett of Wheeling, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister, Jane Harrington. She will be missed every day, and if love could have saved her, she might have lived forever.
