Obituary of CSM Ruben Alexander Blackmon,, U.S. Army, Jr.
CSM Ruben A. Blackmon, U.S. Army, (Ret.), 68, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was the son of the late Ruben Blackmon, Sr. and Bernice (Stewart) Blackmon. He is survived by his wife Elfrieda Blackmon; son, Alexander Blackmon; daughter, Jessica Rice; sister, Linda Brown; his three brothers, James Hammion, Willie Blackmon, and Charles Blackmon; and his four grandchildren. Ruben was born February 18, 1949, in Lancaster, South Carolina. He was drafted February 10, 1969, and decided to make the Army his career, serving for twenty-nine years. He traveled extensively throughout his military career, being stationed in numerous places in the he U.S., Germany, Korea, teaching Military Science at USMA in West Point, New York, and defending his country in the Gulf War. While being stationed in Germany, he met his wife Eve, fell in love, and they were married July 3, 1975. He retired from the military February 28, 1998. After leaving the service, he went to Bosnia for one year as a military trainer. Upon his return, he was General Manager for Charter Communications, continued his education, and eventually earned a Master's Degree from the University of Phoenix in 2002. He permanently retired in 2008.
