Obituary of Loren "Jake" Lester Jacob

Loren Lester Jacob, aka "Jake", age 73, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Colorado Springs on March 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Loren Lester Jacob was born on September 22, 1943 in Pitcher Township, known today as Aurelia, Iowa, to the late Lester Jacob and Nellie (Medendorp) Jacob. Jake attended school in Aurelia, Iowa and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1961.In 1964, Jake joined the U.S. Army and served for twenty years in various capacities ranging from an All American field artillery crewman with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to a supply sergeant with the 597th Maintenance Company at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was stationed overseas in South Korea, Vietnam, and West Germany. Jake was honorably discharged in April 1984.Jake married Kyong Suk Kim of South Korea on February 2, 1970 and they had a good married life, living many years in Colorado Springs. Together they raised one daughter, Michelle.Jake spent most of his career working for Apollo Vending. After deciding to retire in 2000, he moved to Florida to be with his daughter and her family. Retirement did not suit him, so he returned to Apollo in 2003 and worked until the day they closed their business operations in 2012. Jake really enjoyed freshwater fishing, reading western novels, and playing games on his computer. Recently, his favorite TV shows included NCIS, world wrestling, anything related to football, NASCAR, and America's Got Talent.Jake is survived by his wife, Kyong of Colorado Springs; his daughter, Michelle (Stephen) Farkas of Colorado Springs; and his sister, Linda (Paul) Holtapp of Bennington, Nebraska. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Shawn Helmut (Keri) Grossinger of Colorado Springs, Tyler Paige Coblentz of Neenah, Wisconsin, and Isaiah Jacob Coblentz of San Diego, California. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Warrick Liam and William of Colorado Springs, and Elizabeth Nobeline and Jacklynn Janine of Neenah, Wisconsin.Jake was preceded in death by his father, Lester, in 1992, and his mother, Nellie, in 2011.Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at The Springs Funeral Services-North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923.
