Obituary of Helen Cox
Helen Cox, a longtime resident of Golden, Colorado, formerly of Montevideo, Minnesota, died on April 21, 2017 at Park Place at Brookdale in Denver, Colorado after a brief illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and trusted friend. Helen Louise Bell was born on July 9, 1931, in Monticello, Minnesota to the late John H. Bell and Floy A. (Wildman) Bell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Monticello Methodist Church. She was a 1949 graduate of Monticello High School, where she was a cheerleader and homecoming and prom queen. She married Orlan R. Cox on September 6, 1952 in Monticello. The couple moved to Royalton, Minnesota and later to Montevideo, Minnesota where Orlan was principal at the Junior High School. The couple then moved to Golden, Colorado in 1971 when Orlan became principal at Golden High School. Helen and Orlan were members of Faith Lutheran Church.Helen was a Cub Scout Leader, a church volunteer, a collector of antiques, a world traveler, and dog lover. She worked for a time at the Colorado School for Boys and at Bell Junior High as a para. She enjoyed Christmas and started planning for it in January of every year. She also enjoyed early morning coffee, talking on the phone, chocolate, and spending time with her family at their vacation home in Winter Park, Colorado. She will be best remembered for her wonderful Christmas parties, her smile, laughter, and sense of humor, and her eclectic tastes in food, antiques and friends.She is survived by her son, Barton R. Cox of Denver, Colorado; and her daughters, Allison (Greg) Griffin of Thornton, and Carmen Cox (Tom Hoffland) of Colorado Springs. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Mitch (Angela) Griffin of Thornton, and Angie Griffin (fiance, Aaron Harvey) of Denver. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Alise Griffin, and Eli Griffin.She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlan, in 2012; her brother, Duane Bell; and a son in childbirth. She was also preceded by her parents, and her step-father, William McCoy.Memorial Services are planned for 10:00AM, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral Chapel, 1350 North Washington Street, Denver, Colorado 80203.
