Obituary of CMSGT James "Jim" Brown, USAF,
Beloved husband and father of five children, Jim Brown was a devoted, loving, and hardworking man who served his family, country, and friends throughout his life.Jim was born in Toledo, Ohio and joined the U.S. Navy in 1948, where he served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt until 1952. Jim then joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for twenty-nine years and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in a primary role of aircrew life support superintendent. He received numerous decorations, including Meritorious Service, Joint Service Commendation, and service honors for Korea, National Defense, and United Nations.Jim married Vickie on May 21, 1960 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Temperance, Michigan. Throughout their marriage, Jim and Vickie lived in a wide variety of places: Michigan, Utah, Japan, Guam, and Nebraska. After his Air Force retirement, Jim and his family settled in Colorado Springs.While living in Colorado Springs, Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1985. He continued to work in Colorado Springs, serving in the Admissions and Records department at UCCS for many years. He also served Colorado Springs School Districts 11 and 20 as a bus driver during his active retirement, and worked with many friends at Hertz. During this busy life, he and Vickie raised a family of five children and enjoyed family games and vacations throughout his life.Jim was a very active and athletic person who was an avid runner and bicyclist. He played eternally on softball leagues while in the military and well into the 2000's. He also loved to travel throughout the USA in his motorhome. Much of this travel was devoted to his children and included places such as Michigan, Washington, New York, Florida, and all of the remaining states in the Union. His family travel also took him to international destinations such as Ecuador.Jim's appetite for achievement, fitness, and fun were infectious, and this legacy carries on through his children and grandchildren. Living family members whose lives he touched include: Vickie Brown, Ronald Brown, James Jaxxa, Rob Caldwell, Michele Brown, Thomas Brown, Janine Jackson, Robert Brown, Anne Brown, Griffin Brown, Audrey Brown, Drew Jackson, Vanessa Salazar, and Faye Victoria Jackson.A Graveside Service will be held, 10:00AM, Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
