Obituary of Gene Peerbolte

Gene Peerbolte passed peacefully from the arms of his family into the arms of his Savior on May 3, 2017 after a three-year struggle with cancer. He was 78.Gene is survived by Karen, his wife and best friend of forty-nine years; his daughter, Wendy and husband, Jim; his son, Mark and wife, Cindee; his daughter, Kristi and husband, Eric; ten grandchildren, Alex, Anna, Garrett, Julian, Jacob, Blake, Meghan, Daniel, Taylor, and Molly; brothers, Allen Peerbolte and wife, Ida, Don Peerbolte and wife, Georganne, and Dave Peerbolte and wife, Toni; sister, Judy Staat and husband, Bill; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Deb Veldhuis; and many nieces and nephews.Born to John and Jewell Peerbolte in Illinois, Gene, as a young man, became a Boy Scout camp counselor and Eagle Scout, graduated college, then proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. Always an outdoorsman, Gene was an avid fisherman, gardener, and landscape painter. Also a history buff, he loved poring over maps to plan road trips with his family, with a goal of visiting every historical fort in the U.S.Gene and Karen founded a church in Illinois with six other couples, and throughout his life, has served as an Elder, Deacon, and taught adult and children's Bible study classes.After thirty-five years in management at Commonwealth Edison, Gene retired and moved from Illinois to Colorado to be close to Karen's brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Deb Veldhuis.His memorial service will be held at 1:30PM, Monday, May 8, 2017 at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Woodmen Heights Campus, 8292 Woodmen Valley View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gene's memory to Cross International (crossinternational.org) or Woodmen Valley Chapel.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909 Events Service Monday, May 8, 2017 1:30PM Woodmen Valley Chapel 8292 Woodmen Valley View Colorado Springs, CO 80908 Phone: 719-388-5000
