Obituary of Gary Karchut
Gary Karchut, age 67, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Halifax Health Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. He leaves behind his wife, Marti Karchut; his sons, Bryan Karchut and Jeremy Karchut; and his three grandchildren, Austin Karchut, Tyler Karchut, and Adrianna Karchut. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Ann Karchut; his sister, Diane Calkins; and his brother, Wes Karchut. Born November 14, 1949 and raised in Colorado Springs, he enjoyed a successful career as a custom architectural millworker. His craftsmanship can be seen around the country, from luxury hotels in Las Vegas, to the Colorado Springs town clock on the corner of Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue. Wyatt Earp is known to have said that: "Destiny is that which we are drawn towards . . ." and in Gary's case, his own lifelong fascination fueled a legacy that goes beyond him. Gary was drawn towards the old west and the histories that surrounded Colorado. He used to take his two sons tromping through the woods in search of historic places. What started as weekend sojourns to the mountains ended up shaping his children's futures. He carefully crafted in his sons a respect for the frontier, leading both of them to become dedicated to the preservation of the very mountains they used to explore together. One is now a wildland firefighter, another an archaeologist. Each live their father's values, in their own way.
