Obituary of Lt. Col. Tracy A. Scanlan, USAF,

Lt. Col. Tracy A. Scanlan, USAF, (Ret.) died on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family in Colorado Springs. He was a retired Lt. Col. and experimental test pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Tracy was also retired from Martin Marietta Corporation, where he was an aeronautical engineer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.Tracy Allen Scanlan was born on February 28, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to the late James E. and Lila Inez (Miller) Scanlan. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School in 1952. He attended several universities, receiving a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas in 1964, and a Master of Business Administration from Anderson School of Business, UNM in 1978. Tracy was a highly decorated Air Force Officer and served his country for more than twenty-one years. He served as an AeroSpace Research Flight Test officer, and was stationed at Davis-Montham AFB, Wright-Patterson AFB, Edwards AFB, and Kirtland AFB, among others.He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Parish in Monument, Colorado, the Retired Officers Association, the VFW, the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, the Jolly Green Giants, and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War.Tracy was also a U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Sponsor since 1995. He loved to ski, go camping, hike, play poker, and entertain his wonderful grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Diana Scanlan; his daughters, Kimberly (Ron) Parsons of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Judy (Steve) Casey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michele Barela of Colorado Springs, and Renee (David) Martinez of Albuquerque; his son, Sean (Troy) Griffey-Scanlan of Phoenix, Arizona; and his brother, Eddie Scanlan of Houston, Texas. Lieutenant Colonel Scanlan has nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, James and Inez Scanlan; and his son, Tracy A. Scanlan, Jr.A Rosary and Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be heldm 2:00PM, Friday, May 26, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A reception will be held following the memorial service at the home of David and Renee Martinez.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name, Lt. Col. Tracy A.
