Obituary of Jose "Joe" Lueras
José "Joe" Lueras, 70, of Colorado Springs, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.Joe, born March 19, 1947 in Belen, New Mexico to Ambrose and Ester Lueras, was the oldest of ten children. He grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Rio Grande High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, Joe took a summer job at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he stayed for the next forty-nine years. He loved working at the Broadmoor. During his time there, Joe welcomed and cared for many people, including celebrities, members of the government, several U.S. presidents, and foreign dignitaries. He thoroughly enjoyed his interactions and rapports with guests, but he particularly valued all the wonderful friendships he formed with his co-workers over the years. Much more than a bellman, Joe embodied hospitality, with guests and colleagues alike drawn to his warm smile, quick wit, and sense of humor. Outside of work, Joe loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He adored his wife of thirty-eight years, and was so proud of his children and grandchild, supporting their academic, athletic, and personal achievements.A staunch Broncos fan, amateur historian, crossword puzzler, music lover, enthusiastic shopper, avid canasta player (belonging to the elite Mai Tai & Canasta Club), voracious reader, and Hawaiian at heart, Joe was a renaissance man, often describing himself as knowing a little about a lot of things. He enjoyed traveling with his family, but mostly just loved spending time with them at every opportunity.Joe is survived by his wife, Minda; children, Keith (Monique), Alexis, Robert, and Jordan (Martina); granddaughter, Danielle; and siblings, Archie (Bernadette), Paul (Maria), Alex, Dennis (Connie), Cecilia Olivas (José), and Regina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Ester; brothers, Bernard and Ralph; and sister, Guadalupe Burciaga (Manuel).Contributions in memory of Joe may be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation. https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/donate or mail to: P.O.
