Lee R. Sankey, 79, of Yoder, Colorado, died on June 13. 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was born on September 16, 1937 in Clelum, Washington to Jesse Glenn and Faye Theda (Wright) Sankey.Lee spent the majority of his life building the roads of Wyoming and he lived in Park County, Wyoming."The only thing I wanted said is: He was the last true cowboy. He lived that way till the end. He was the toughest man I knew. My favorite old redneck Grandpa Lee Sankey. He taught me how to drive and weld "redneck style". His favorite saying was, 'If it can't be fixed with bailing wire, a soup can, or duct tape, it ain't worth fixin'.' His band aids were paper towels, super glue, and tape. I remember when I was four or five riding with him in his old cabover freightliner and telling him I'm going to drive trucks too. I may not drive a cabover, but I do drive a freightliner. We will miss him." - Statement by grandson, Gabe Montoya. He is survived by his daughter, Marilee NiEtain; grandchildren, Michele Montoya-Lipes, Gabriel Montoya, Daniel Burgess; and great-grandchildren, Sean Lipes, Morgan Lipes, Austin Montoya, Avery Montoya, Ethan Burgess, Tierany Burgess, and Aidan Burgess. No services will be held, but Lee's ashes will be taken to the homestead in South Dakota to be placed with his mother's, Faye Sankey. The family, with gratitude, requests contributions to assist with funeral expenses, which can be made directly to The Springs Funeral Services.
