Obituary of Gladys Louise Roepka Staatz

Gladys Louise Roepka Staatz, 85, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. She was born May 9, 1932 in Kirksville, Missouri to Herman and Mabelle Mettling. She married Gerald "Jerry" Roepka on June 22, 1952. Gladys worked as a seamstress for many years, enabling her to stay home and raise their three children. Gladys then worked in various administrative positions at Penrose Hospital. She retired in 1992 after eighteen years. Jerry preceded Gladys in death on November 25, 1998. Gladys married her second husband, Dewey Staatz, on December 16, 2005. They enjoyed several years of retirement together. Dewey preceded Gladys in death on September 18, 2016. Gladys' son, Byron (Gail) Roepka, preceded her in death on January 12, 1999. Gladys was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and of Centennial Chapter #58, O.E.S. (Past Worthy Matron). Gladys loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts that are treasured by her family.Gladys is survived by two daughters, Rita (Bill) Arnson and Brenda (Jesse) Stephens; nine grandchildren, Scott Arnson, Timothy (Carolyn) Arnson, Rebecca (Tom) Raguso, Christopher (Shannon) Arnson, Jason (Andrea) Pfeiffer, Jeremiah (Charissa) Roepka, Ryan (Shawn) Zimmerman, Chelsea (Joe) Davis, and Justin Stephens; and thirteen great-grandchildren.Memorial Service, 10:00AM, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80911. Private Interment will follow at the Air Force Academy Cemetery.
