Obituary of Sylvia Catherine Hueneke
Sylvia Catherine Farley, age 79, of Jacksonville, Florida, was called to Heaven on June 20, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship. She was born in Greenville, Mississippi to Robert Bruce and Iris Catherine (Jones) Farley on November 8, 1937.Sylvia was an absolutely selfless giver of time and resources, she would do anything needed for family and friends and never complained or asked for anything for herself. She raised her own three children, but was also considered just like a mother to their lifelong friends. Additionally, she was like a mother to her eight grandchildren, none of whom ever had to go to a daycare as a child, because she played an equal role in raising and caring for them. She was a gifted musician, playing piano and organ, and could sing beautifully. Sylvia was steadfast and devout Christian, she taught several generations of children about The Lord, and set the example of a Christ-like, loving, prayerful, faithful, and strong Christian woman for all who knew her. During several years of her adult life, Sylvia was blessed with the opportunity to travel widely throughout the world - to places many people never get to see. She travelled all over Europe: into the U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and other countries. She went to Israel to see the Holy Land, into Egypt to see the pyramids, and elsewhere in Northern Africa and the middle East. In the days before US/Mideast relations changed, she even had the opportunity to meet the King of Jordan and the (then) Shah of Iran. She also travelled into China, Japan, and other parts of Asia. Not bad for a young lady from Greenville, Mississippi! Yet throughout all her life, she still retained her country girl humility, along with her classic southern grace and charm. It is customary for people to send condolences upon the passing of a loved one. Sylvia was, and will always be, known as "Memommy" to a great many people, and for all of us, in her case, condolences are just not necessary. We haven't lost anyone; we know exactly where Memommy is. We rejoice at her homecoming to be with family and friend in Heaven. She continues to be loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and by all who know her. We will forever keep her with us in our hearts, and we know we will be together again. Sylvia's family includes daughters, Donna Catherine Jackson and husband, Glenn, and Carole Farley Carpenter; son, John David Carpenter and wife, Anita; grandchildren, John Paul and Sharon Colleen Jackson, and Chris Mayfield, Jordon Edward Carpenter Fink and Annie Natsumi Given, Courtney Kristen and Ian Patrick Burrell, Hilary Frances and Chelsie Catherine Carpenter Sparks, and Jacob Dodge, and Kira Lynn and Cady Anne Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Aurora Violet Mayfield, and Shaylee Kendall and David James Hall Burrell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in the name of Sylvia Catherine Farley be made to a Christian non-profit charitable organization of the giver's choosing.
