Obituary of Valerie Baer

Valerie Baer, 81, passed away on June 26, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.She is survived by her husband, John Baer of Fountain, Colorado; and sons, Bobby Kea of Sibley, Louisiana, Terry Kea of Carthage, Mississippi, and Shawn (Julie) Baer of Layton, Utah. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Bobby J., Brandi, Mason, and Emily; and one great-grandchild, Dominic Kea. Valerie was born April 21, 1936 in Middlesex, England. She was one of eleven children born to Kenneth and Rita Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pam Smith, Jill Rayner, and Vivienne Thetford; brother, Andrew Smith; and daughter, Vickie Kea. She met the love of her life, John, in 1967 in Columbus, Georgia, where they married on May 26, 1969. After traveling the world as a military wife, John retired from the Army and they settled in Colorado Springs in 1983. She worked at Au Bon Pain Cafe and Bakery in the Citadel Mall. Valerie also helped John build and run a successful Farmers Insurance Agency, and could be found smiling and laughing with every client. Most recently, she could be found tending to her "English Garden" and crocheting hats for babies at St. Jude's Hospital. She enjoyed making homemade crafts, having a cuppa tea with friends and family, and a good game of Words with Friends. There was nothing she loved more than being a Mom and Nana. On any given day, no matter how bad she may have felt, she pushed through and made time for those who called or texted, never missing a holiday or birthday. Reassuring them that she was "okay love." She gave with all her heart and remained the most humble person we know. She was loved by many and will be missed.
