Obituary of John William Smid

John William Smid, age 74, passed away June 27, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his loving family at his side. John was born November 10, 1942 in Boyden, Iowa to Sienus and Margaret Smid.Two days before his 18th birthday, John joined the United State Navy. In his words, "The Navy made a man out of me." He returned to his hometown where he then married Arlys Klaassen, then had two beautiful daughters.John spent most of his life working in the Agricultural and Construction industry. He was an estimator and was in sales. He loved to golf, dabble in woodworking and home renovation, traveling the country in their RV, and an active member at Woodman Valley Chapel.John is survived by his wife; Arlys, daughters; Stacy (Brian) Boerboom and Kristen (Trace) Kea, eight grandchildren; Zach, Jacob, Sarah, Mary and Nathan Boerbom, Jared Courtney, and William and Joshua Kea, sister; Ruth Schoon, and brothers; Doug (Judy) Smid and Harlan (Laura) Smid.Funeral Service, 10:30AM, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Woodmen Heights Campus, 8292 Woodmen Valley View, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80908.Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
