Obituary of Helen K. Hoffman

Helen K. Hoffman, 83, died on July 8, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.She was born on November 22, 1933 to John and Flora (Farmakis) Kardaras, and spent her childhood in Oxford, Ohio along with her two sisters, now known as Irene Kallas of Dearborn, Michigan, and Harriet Gounaris of Dayton, Ohio. Her family was well-known, as they owned and operated restaurants in Oxford and were prominent within the local Greek Orthodox Church.She is best known as the mother of seven children after a marriage to Gene Hoffman in 1969, witnessed by the six children of their previous marriages, and the later addition of Paula Gessert, currently of Monument, Colorado. She was served well by a friendly personality derived from an active lifestyle and a competitive spirit, including field hockey at the national level as a youth, and later in tennis and golf as the children matured. She is loved by those children, and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren produced by those seven. That competitive and friendly spirit leaves many friends around the world who will miss her greatly.She is survived by her husband, Gene Hoffman; her two sisters, Irene Kallas and Harriet Gounaris; six children, Robert C. Myers, Holly A. Hoffman, Gary A. Hoffman, Kathryn Remati, Nancy T. Harte, and Paula L. Gessert; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by a son, Dean H. Hoffman, in 2011.There is no scheduled local ceremony, as her life will be celebrated later with a private family memorial at a time and place to be decided by her husband and children.
