Obituary of Mary "Martha" Virginia Fuentes

Mary "Martha" Virginia Fuentespassed peacefully at home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 8, 2017 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. She was 77 years old. She was a homemaker for her loving husband and children.Martha was born at home in Trinidad, Colorado on November 14, 1939 to Elfido, Jr. and Juanita Lopez. She was the fourth of eight children. Martha graduated from Hoehne High School in 1958. She worked for a few years after high school in various secretarial and administrative positions until she met Steve, the love of her life, in 1962 at a barbeque hosted by her sister, Joan, in El Paso, Texas. She and Steve were married on June 25, 1966 and were together for fifty-one years. Steve was with her always and did not leave her side during these final difficult days. This is a tribute to the love they shared.She liked to laugh, she liked movie star fan magazines, records, books, movies, and, of course, shoes. She loved Western and Native American art. She had many pictures and sculptures by famous artists, including our cousin, famed sculptor John Lopez of South Dakota. She also had two favorite acronyms, HSN and QVC.
