Obituary of Lois Evelyn Compton
Lois Compton, 85, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on July 10, 2017. She was born to Simon Elmer and Elizabeth (Fowler) Smith in rural Shelby County, Illinois. She was the youngest daughter of eight children. She lived most of her younger life in the Shelbyville, Illinois area and moved to Peoria, Illinois where she met her husband, Robert "Bob" Gerald Compton. They were married December 22, 1951. Lois moved to Colorado Springs in 2013 after her husband passed away.Lois was a member of the Groveland Missionary Church in Groveland, Illinois. Lois and Bob were very actively involved in the Peoria area Model A Ford Club for over thirty years. Lois also worked at the restaurant that they owned and was a caregiver for a blind friend for many years. She also spent a great deal of time helping with her nine grandchildren.Lois was always a quick-witted person throughout her life and was known to make her caregivers laugh a lot during her later years. She incorporated some very funny sayings in her daily routine and was always eager to help others.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother, Harold Smith; and sister, Virginia Young.Lois is survived by her daughter, Sandra Polson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; stepdaughter, Connie Craig of Port Charlotte, Florida; stepson, Paul Compton of Mesa, Arizona; brothers, Jay Smith of Cowden, Illinois, Lloyd Smith of Assumption, Illinois, Leon Smith of Seattle, Washington, and Leonard Smith of Lithia, Florida; and sister, Wilma Adair of Pana, Illinois.
