Obituary of Bernardine Mary Egge

Berni Egge was born to Bernard Edward and Margaret Mary O’Donnell in Fontana, California. She graduated from St. Bernardine’s Girls High School in Fontana and started work as a telephone operator in San Bernardino, California. On January 11, 1968, she and Geoff Egge met and it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair for both. They married between his first two Vietnam tours, had their first child, Sean, between his second and third tour, and their daughter, Shannon, was born two and a half years later. Air Force assignments would then take them to Australia, Belgium, and twice to Greece; from that she developed a taste for travel and adventure! On one of four assignments to Florida, she took up scuba diving and they dove in the Florida Keys and Cayman Islands. In Colorado they bought a hot air balloon and Berni became Crew Chief, responsible for everything happening on the ground with the chase crew, and they participated in ballooning events in Colorado Springs and Albuquerque. In 2003, she ventured out with her late cousin, Linda Lazer, and daughter, Shannon, on a girls-only tour of Alaska in a rented RV. Her strong Irish heritage then prompted her to take Shannon to tour Ireland in 2004 where, among other places, they visited the family O’Donnell heritage castle in Donegal. She loved RVing and, with Geoff, spent three months on a trip through Canada and Alaska, and another three-month trip touring New England. She and Geoff also followed their son, Sean, and his family on their Navy assignments to Japan and Bahrain, with side trips to Singapore, Malaysia, Oman, and the UAE. Berni considered her most important and successful job to be the raising of two wonderful children, Sean Egge and Shannon Pinczuk. She then was able to do her most fun job, that of being a Gram for Shannon and Fred Pinczuk’s daughter, Sophie, and Sean and Kelsey’s two sons, Theo and Jamie. She adored her grandchildren and treasured every second she was able to spend with them. She loved and was loved by so many people in so many places; she lived life to the fullest and she is very deeply missed!Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 8755 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920.
