Obituary of Jennette Ruth Goodwin

Jennette Ruth Goodwin went on to be with Jesus on July 30, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She had a loving, servant's heart and a sweet spirit. Always willing to jump in where she saw a need, Jennette was a loving daughter, big sister to two younger sisters, devoted wife, great mother of two (sometimes out of control) boys, and the best of best friends.Born in 1948 to Daniel and Joy Thacker in Hemet, California, she grew up with her two younger sisters, Cindy and Sherrie. While attending Shasta Union High School, she met, and soon after married, the love of her life, Jim, and they were married for fifty-one years. During this time, she attended Long Beach State and began a career as a bookkeeper. Whenever asked about her job position at SSA, the accounting firm she worked for, she would say “I’m the director of first impressions at . . .” because her's would be the first face you would see when you walked into that establishment, and her job was making you feel at home. She was proficient as a pianist, loved singing in the choir, and later she grew to love playing in a handbell choir, eventually leading the choir for a time. She was very proud that she had the opportunity to march and play in a handbell choir in the 1988 Rose Parade. Jennette loved giraffes, and passionately collected them . . . in figurine, stuffed animal, or jewelry form. Surely if she could have figured out a way to keep one as a pet, she would most certainly have done so.Jennette was also not one to shy away from a puzzle. Perhaps it was the bookkeeper in her, but no matter how big the puzzle, or how many of the tiny little pieces there were, she had the organizational skills and laser-like focus to finish it.She was an amazing quilter, matching fabric patterns and colors that most would have sent to the rag bag. When all of the pieces had finally been assembled, the most beautiful blankets, bedspreads, tablecloths, and even napkins, would emerge as if the textiles were destined to go together from the beginning, even though they came from different mills, different designers, and even different eras. She was an active member of Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colorado, enjoying activity in Bible studies, women’s activities, community groups, and Legacy senior ministry. She served on the greeting team for several years which was quite fitting for a “director of first impressions” in both career and life. After bravely battling cancer several times since 2009, on Sunday, July 30th, she was finally called home.Jennette is survived by her husband, Jim Goodwin; sons, Christopher (Heather), and Timothy (Polly); and four grandchildren, Christina, Jennerose, Dan, and Nate. She is also survived by her mother, Joy Thacker of Redding, California; two sisters, Cindy Walker of Sacramento, California, and Sherrie Baker of Redding, California; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life Service will be held, 1:00PM, Monday, August 7, 2017 at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Woodmen Heights Campus, 8292 Woodmen Valley View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908.
