Obituary of Maj. John Robert Englehart, USAF,

Major John "Bob" Robert Englehart, passed away on September 12, 2017 at the age of 87. A full life was lived. Bob was born on September 12, 1930 in Morgantown, West Virginia, and grew up in the small town of Kingwood, West Virginia. He completed high school at Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, Virginia. A 1953 graduate of the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF.In 1955, on completion of F-86 training at Nellis AFB, Nevada, he was selected as an Air Training Officer for the 1st Class at the new Air Force Academy. Further assignments included France, Germany, Alabama, and Texas. Bob had temporary duty assignments around the world. Major Englehart flew the RF-101 in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, earning multiple Distinguished Flying Crosses and Air Medals. His last assignment was at Security Service, Kelly AFB, and he remained in San Antonio after retirement.Bob was passionate about education. He had two master's degrees and an extensive home library. He shared his life lessons with family and friends and counseled many young students on the benefits of a military career. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, John Russell and Jesse Reckart Englehart. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Ellen; son, Robert (Edith) Englehart; daughter, Karen Pizano; granddaughters, Kristin (Cody) Johnson, Alyssa (John) Baumann, and Eden Pizano; and great-granddaughter, Finley Johnson.In lieu of flowers, donations in John Englehart's memory may be made to the Air Warrior Courage Foundation or a military related charity of your choice.A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00PM, Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Unites States Air Force Academy Cemetery, Unites States Air Force Academy, Colorado.The Englehart's are grateful to the staff at The Landing at Stone Oak.
