Obituary of Bruce Lee Salisbury
Bruce Salisbury, age 87, died on Monday, September 18, 2017. He was a volunteer firefighter/EMT; author, poet, cartoonist and United States Air Force veteran. Bruce Lee Salisbury was born on May 13, 1930 in Mount Harris, Colorado. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at just fifteen years old in January 1945. After twenty-two years, Bruce retired as a Master Sergeant and went on to become a volunteer firefighter/EMT for nearly thirty years, until he fell ill with blood poisoning from the VA. In 2003, Bruce started another mission in life; he thought there ought to be a prominent mountain named to honor fallen military personnel. In October 2007, Mount KIAMIA was born. Mount KIAMIA is a tall mountain in South Central Colorado dedicated to all who were either killed or missing in action from the five uniformed services and from all of America's wars. Bruce at heart never really retired from the military. He has been writing for veterans for many years and has been an advocate for our Heroes. One of the projects he worked on was to have sculpted a bronze statue of Marine Lance Corporal Kenneth Lee Worley, USMC. Bruce is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Salisbury; two sons, William Lee (CiCi) and Bruce Allan (Lori) Salisbury; his daughter, Winona D. Salisbury; grandson, Dale Ra Salisbury; granddaughter, Dawn Marie Carter; and his six great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, September 22, 2017 at Homelake Cemetery, 3749 Sherman Avenue, Monte Vista, Colorado 81144.Memorial contributions can be made to the Korean War Memorial.
