Obituary of Penelope Ann Moeckel

On October 21, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Penelope "Penny" Moeckel left this earth the same way she lived, on her own terms. She was born on June 9, 2017 to Conrad Lee and Rozella (Ikerd) O'Neal in Depew, Oklahoma. There was never a dull moment around this sassy lady. When with family and friends, she would make us laugh until our sides hurt. After high school, Penny took the words of JFK's inaugural address to heart and wanted to become a government agent. At the University of New Mexico, she studied Russian and History. She was an auxiliary state trooper and security guard. That is until she met the love of her life Ernest Moeckel. The couple married on September 7, 1974. In addition to working as a manager for Stop and Shop, she was a valued volunteer for the Girl Scouts and the Danbury High School Band. She was also an amazing advocate for her children.Penny retired in 2009 and moved to Colorado Springs for the weather, the beautiful vistas, and to annoy her daughter that she had a view of Pike's Peak while her daughter did not.Penny is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; and her son, Robert. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia, and Melissa; four grandchildren, Michelle, Robert, Richard, and Kathleen; two sons-in-law, Charles, and Reed; and many friends who will miss her infectious laugh and vibrant personality.
