Obituary of Lindsay Anne Smalley

On October 24, 2017 Lindsay Anne Smalley, 32, died unexpectedly in Colorado Springs, Colorado from an accidental combination of prescription pills and drink with friends.Lindsay was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 23, 1985 to Julie Ann and Raymond Scott Smalley. She grew up on the Westside and attended Lincoln, Taylor and Washington Elementary Schools, West Middle School, and graduated from Coronado High School in 2003. She made lifelong friends that she cherished dearly at each of these schools. Lindsay also attended classes at Pikes Peak Community College. While she never finished her degree, Lindsay loved learned and was interested in Psychology, art, and business.Lindsay was a gifted person and matchmaker and was loved by all. She changed the life of every person she knew in significant ways including matchmaking her closest family members (her dad Ray and stepmom Jen; her mom Julie and stepdad Jose; and her brother Ryan and sister-in-law Sara) and numerous friends.Above all other things in her life, Lindsay was a true friend and a best friend. She was a unique and strong person and a significant connector of other unique, strong people, who became her close, extended family. Her wide, vast social group consisted of people from every walk of life and Lindsay welcomed every single person with open arms and unconditional acceptance.Lindsay also loved animals - all animals - especially her beloved pets, Frank and Lupita, and was always finding good homes for homeless pets.Lindsay's work life was as wide and varied as her circle of friends. For the past decade, Lindsay worked as a caregiver in the medical marijuana industry and helped open several dispensaries in Colorado Springs. Over the years, she worked as a nanny for many of her friends growing families and as an inspector at Property Preservation. She also worked at the Hub carwash, and the Adventure Club, which is a childcare program run through the elementary schools in Colorado Springs. During her high school years, she worked at Taco Bell, the Manitou Springs Penny Arcade, and Cedarwood Nursing Home (where she volunteered in seventh grade). Lindsay enjoyed spending time with the residents, painting their nails, and listening to their life's stories. Lindsay lived in Colorado Springs for most of her life, but also resided in the Denver area for two years, and in Larkspur, Colorado for the last eight months of her life.Lindsay had the rare chance to experience true love at the end of her life and Matt Zoll, her boyfriends of just four short months, made her the happiest that any of her friends or family have ever seen.In her 32 years on this planet, Lindsay lived an artistic, full life filled with many adventures, such as attending births of her friends, going to concerts, skydiving, visiting cemeteries, ghost-hunting, traveling, bargain shopping, hiking, watching documentaries, finding good homes for pets, making her handmade Smallmark cards, and baking and cooking among many, many other. Most of all, Lindsay was a counselor and friend to all the people she loved in her life and was known to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need.Lindsay's grandfather, Erville Gayle Smalley preceded her in death. She is survived by her parents; mother Julie Rivera and stepfather Jose Rivera (Colorado Springs, CO), father Raymond Smalley and stepmother Jennifer Phelps (Broomfield, CO); grandparents, Beth Larson (Colorado Springs, CO), Jon and Brigitte Larson (Castle Rock, CO), Sandra Smalley (Colorado Springs, CO), and Jim and Sue Phelps (Englewood, CO); brother, Ryan and his wife Sara Smalley (Colorado Springs, CO); sister, Naomi Gunter (Colorado Springs, CO); three stepbrothers, Eric, Ben, and Philip Rivera; Lindsay is also survived by her niece, Ava Smalley; a goddaughter, Lindsi; two cousins, Cooper and Henry Smalley; two uncles, Todd and Steve Smalley; and two aunts, Dawn Larson and Tina Simmons.In lieu of flowers, a memorial tribute in honor of Lindsay can be sent to: The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80905 (www.hsppr.org/springs/in-celebration-or-tribute).This obituary can also be found on the Memorial Websites at Legacy.com(memorialwebsites.legacy.com/LindsaySmalleyMemorialWebsite/homepage.aspx)Lindsay's Facebook Page will remain live in her honor.
