Sherm was a woman committed to her country and an inspiration to all. I met her through my Rotary Club and we worked together on a number of community projects. The most memorable was when she was my roommate on a trip to Quito, Ecuador in 2003 (she had just turned 85) where we provided 240 wheel chairs to children, women and men in need. She had as much spunk and energy as the rest of us. It was hot and we needed to drink lots of water of which she was not fond of, yet said if it had bourbon in it she'd drink it! Prior to returning home we went to Matsu Picchu and as our tour guide walked us over the grounds which were rocky and steep, she said she had a bad knee that was going to be replaced when she got home. There was not a thing Sherm could not do. I was looking forward to helping her celebrate her 100th Birthday and certainly will in spirit. She often said she felt guilty collecting a pension since she was retired for a longer period of time than she served. As I look at the Women's Movement today, I see her as one of the initial women whose leadership, determination, and commitment to a better tomorrow led the way. Rest in Peace for a job well done.

What a awesome woman that I call a friend. I would sit for hours talking to her about her military life. She lived by it, preached about it, and that she was proud to be apart of it. Sherm will be greatly missed and loved by many. Thank you sherm for services. I hope you got honored at your funeral as you wanted. Luv and miss you so much. Jessica Dolan
