Obituary of Herbert Glen Merklen
Herbert "Glen" Merklen, 80, passed away at home with family by his side on December 12, 2017. He was born September 9, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, son of Herbert and Jeanne Merklen. He was an older brother to Larry Merklen. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Lou Merklen. He is survived by his daughter, Stacey and her husband Jay Rogers; grandchildren, Kelsey and husband Cole Smith, Morgan and husband Drake Good and Chase Rogers, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.�Glen grew up in Los Angeles where he excelled in all sports. He was offered multiple athletic scholarships but after high school, he signed with the New York Yankees baseball organization where he had many adventures traveling the country during his professional career. On July 29, 1961, he married his wife, Nina Langford, in Nashville, Tennessee at a courthouse before one of his baseball games. After his only daughter Stacey was born, they relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he started his own trucking company, Sunbelt Express, Inc. He remained in Dallas until 2013, when he moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to family after the passing of his wife.�Glen was passionate about his family, was an avid sports fan, and was an active member of his church family at Richardson East in Dallas and Tri-Lakes Church of Christ in Monument, Colorado. He never knew a stranger and was loved by all. His contagious smile and witty sense of humor brought joy to all who had the pleasure of being around him.�Glen's life will be celebrated 11:00AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017, Tri-Lakes Church of Christ, 20450 Beacon Lite Road, Monument, Colorado 80132. The service will be officiated by Tri-Lakes minister Greg Smith.
