Obituary of Maxine Milhollin Riley
Maxine Milhollin Riley of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Thursday December 27, 2017 at the age of 99. She was born on December 9, 1918 near Elk City, Oklahoma. At one year of age, her family moved to Boone County, Missouri near Sturgeon where she grew up. She graduated from Sturgeon High School. Following high school she moved to Columbia, Missouri where she attended Orton Rice Business School and worked for the Boone County Abstract Company for eight-and-a-half years.She married Clay Gulick Riley on January 27, 1940. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1967 at the age of 52.Following the death of her husband, she worked for MFA Insurance Companies (renamed Shelter Insurance) of Columbia, Missouri for sixteen years. During her retirement years, she worked for five years as Music Secretary on a voluntary basis at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia.She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and held other positions for fifty-one years before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1998 to be near her children. Since that time she has been a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. Some of Maxine's hobbies were crocheting afghans, making a cook book of favorite recipes for her children and grandchildren, preparing a volume of Family Tree Information for her children, playing the piano, playing cards, and bowling for a few years.Maxine is survived by her son, Michael "Mike" Wayne (Deborah "Pixie") Riley; two daughters, Sandra Kay (Michael) Riley DeGarie, and Marla Ann Riley; five grandchildren, Tabitha Lee Riley, Stephanie Ann Riley Plaisted, Michelle Renee Riley Knight, Chantelle Anee Degarie Drury, and Danielle Baca Degarie ; and four great-grandchildren.Maxine is preceded in death by her husband; mother and father; and her brothers, Norbert James Milhollin, Robert Milhollin, and two brothers who died in infancy.Visitation, 9:30AM - 10:30AM, Thursday, January 4, 2018, First Southern Baptist Church, 1409 Palmer Park Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Funeral Service, 10:30AM, Thursday, January 4, 2018, First Southern Baptist.Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.Luncheon immediately following, First Southern Baptist Church.
