SSgt Lonnie "Eagle" M. Hamilton, age 62, died on January 15, 2018 at the Bruce McCandless State Veterans Community in Florence, Colorado following a short battle with cancer. He had served his country in the U.S. Army, retired from the United States Mint in Denver, and also the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.Lonnie Monroe Hamilton was born on February 21, 1955 in Colorado Springs to the late Alonzo and Evelyn (Taylor) Hamilton. He grew up in Manitou Springs and was a 1974 graduate of Harrison High School. He then joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. He received his associates degree in 1985 from Blair Business College. He went to work for the U.S. Mint for twenty years and eventually retired an Annealer. While at the Denver Mint, Lonnie also served in the Air Force Reserve and retired as Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Colorado Springs where his mother was a faithful member and occasional organist. He was a man of solitude and dedication to his family. At one time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and more recently his computer. He dearly loved the friendships that he made at the Bruce McCandless Community where he will be dearly missed.
