Obituary of Dell Thomas Swainson
Dell T Swainson, 91, died January 23, 2018, at Freedom Home Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.She was born November 12, 1926 in Newcastle, Wyoming and was the only child of Floyd ("Ty") Thomas and Daisy Womack. Dell graduated high school in Newcastle. She briefly attended the University of Nebraska, and later graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Music. In between college semesters she would return to Newcastle where she helped work the family ranch. Dell later moved to Cheyenne and taught music at Carey Junior High. She met her future husband in Cheyenne, William "Bill" Swainson. They were married in 1959 in Newcastle.Dell and Bill resided in Cheyenne and had two sons, Andy and Scot Swainson. She was very involved with the music department of the First United Methodist Church, including directing youth and adult choirs, playing the organ and piano for church services (as she did while growing up in Newcastle), and playing the piano or organ for numerous weddings, funerals, and recitals. Music was such a great love and passion for Dell, including playing "Til We Meet Again" on the piano just days before her passing. She was a strong, loving wife and the greatest mom two sons could have ever asked for! She will be missed!She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd ("Ty") Thomas and Daisy Womack, and husband, Bill Swainson.She is survived by sons, Andy Swainson of Cheyenne and Scot (Rebecca) Swainson of Colorado Springs, as well as grandchildren Zachary Swainson, Caleb Swainson, and Madison Swainson.Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 108 East 18th Street Cheyenne, Wyoming, 82001.
