Obituary of Col Stanley Powell Houghton, USAF,

Col Stanley Powell Houghton, 87, died January 24, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was born February 9, 1930 in Tucson, Arizona to Cavet and Martha (Barnes) Houghton.Stanley enlisted in the Navy in March of 1948 and graduated in 1950 from the Naval Academy. Beginning as a radio man and retired as a full Bird Colonel, Stanley served in the Pacific Isles, France, Scotland, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He served as a pilot in the USAF for over twenty-six years, which included eight years of foreign and sea service, his last command DECCO DCA. Medals he earned for his service include the Military Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star for war services. He retired in 1974.Stanley managed and oversaw the Presbyterian Church Southern Synod from 1974 to 1986. He served as a member and pilot for the Civil Air Patrol in Alaska for twenty years. In 2007 Stanley moved to Colorado to spend more time with family, and to farm, travel and volunteer. He served others with humility. Stanley set an example for patriots to follow and he was loved and admired by all. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Houghton; sons, James Houghton and John Houghton; daughters, Kenya Anders and Martha Jo Houghton; stepsons, Timothy Miller, Scott Miller and Christopher Miller; stepdaughters, Kelly Miller and Kimberly Rash; sister, Helen Elliott; and his eighteen grandchildren.Graveside Service, 12:00PM, Friday, July 12, 2019, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.For more information, please contact Stanley's wife, Shirley.
