Obituary of Theodora "Teddy" Moniz Haddock

Theodora "Teddy" Moniz Haddock, age 86, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Teddy was a retired nurse, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Theodora Moniz Starcke was born on December 8, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Theodore H. and Adelaide (Moniz) Starcke. She graduated high school and continued her education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, graduating in 1957 with a nursing degree. Teddy practiced nursing in Charlottesville, Virginia; Miami, Florida; and Livingston, New Jersey. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she continued to work at the VA Hospital and where she met Philip M. Haddock. She traveled back to New Jersey briefly after the tragic loss of her mother. Upon returning to Arizona she and Philip became engaged and married in 1960. They honeymooned in Las Vegas, Nevada and began their long life of fifty-seven years together in Phoenix, Arizona, eventually making their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While in Arizona, Phil taught Teddy about the outdoors; she learned how to ride a horse, shoot a gun, hunt, fish, camp, and ranch. Teddy gave up her nursing career in 1963 to raise children and devote herself to her family. In 1963 they welcomed their first daughter into the world and one year later moved to Longmont, Colorado. Their second daughter was born in 1964 in Boulder, Colorado. They then moved to Colorado Springs and in 1968, welcomed their third daughter, also born in Boulder, Colorado. Teddy was a very compassionate and dedicated nurse. She had a quick wit and dry sense of humor, and was highly respected by her co-workers and doctors. She held positions that included Medical Supervisor for the surgical unit in Charlottesville, Virginia; Head Nurse at the hospital in Miami, Florida; and was offered a position as Head Nurse in Orange, New Jersey, which she declined in order to continue her medical career at the VA Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Teddy was also a wonderful and supportive mother to her three girls, encouraging them in all of their activities including horse related activities, dance, piano, and other activities of their choice. Teddy worked as a secretary for her husband Philip's construction business for many years, but decided to return to nursing and in 1975. She went back to school for a refresher course in nursing where she renewed her RN and achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Teddy worked at Memorial Hospital for twenty years, retiring in 1996 when she was 65 years old. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, visiting friends, politics, fishing, camping, and helping with the grandkids. Teddy is survived by her husband, Philip Haddock who resides in Black Forest, Colorado; eldest daughter, Michele Pring, and son-in-law Rick Pring of Peyton, Colorado; middle daughter, Jeanette Haddock of Wheatland, Wyoming; and youngest daughter, Suzanne Cechini of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two step sons, Christopher and Robert Haddock of Colorado; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Teddy is preceded in death by her mother, Adelaide M. Starcke; her father, Theodore H. Starcke; and her sister, Adelaide Ruth Wollison, all of Livingston, New Jersey.
