Obituary of Dale John Maibaum

Dale John Maibaum, 86, returned to his heavenly home on January 28, 2018 after a valiant effort to recover from a sudden illness. His devotion to his family and his quiet belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. He was surrounded by members of his immediate family at his passing.Dale was born to the late Harry Maibaum and Amalia Meier Maibaum, on August 17, 1931. During high school, he worked various jobs in a movie theater and hammering railroad ties. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, where he was honorably discharged after three years of service. He then decided to pursue college and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He accepted a position at McDonnell Douglas in St Louis where he met and married his lifelong wife of over fifty-two years, Carol Frances Broz. In 1965, he accepted a position at General Electric in Cincinnati, where he retired after thirty-three years.Dale was blessed with a loving family. He married Carol on April 24,1965 in St Louis, Missouri. He was devoted to his family and helped raise and educate his two children. He then gladly accepted the position of "Opa"/Grandpa after his retirement and the birth of his five grandchildren. During his life, he never forgot the meaning of hard work, while never forgetting the simplicity, enjoyment, and importance of life's moments. This philosophy was passed on to his children and grandchildren. He loved the opportunities he had living and traveling in Europe with family, walking along the dirt paths in Germany with his grandchildren, feeding ducks and fish in the local pond, collecting buckeyes, and eating berries straight out of the forest. His quiet and calming personality will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator. Dale is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, David (Pam) Maibaum; and his daughter, Dawn (Dan) Szarke; his grandchildren Daniel and Kelly Maibaum, and Annelie, Mathieu and Katherine Szarke; his brother Harold, and sister, Marcella Hake. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lester; and his parents.Flowers, prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted.
