Obituary
Obituary of SPC Aiveni Jon "Ivan" Mafi, USA
Army Specialist Aiveni "Ivan" Jon Mafi, age 25, will most be missed for his smile and his selfless concern for others.Ivan was born on June 18, 1992 in San Bernardino, California to Tevita and Angelica Mafi, and was quickly followed by his beloved siblings, Isaia Michael and Sela Leilani. Eagles were important to Ivan from an early age; he attended Eagleview Middle School, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a fanatical Philadelphia Eagles supporter.A 2010 graduate of Air Academy High School, Ivan, an avid basketball player, opted instead to do marching band and began his military career by joining the Air Force JROTC program. He continued his military career by becoming an intelligence analyst in the second Platoon, HHT, sixth Squadron, seventeenth Calvary Regiment, fourth Combat Aviation Brigade of the fourth Infantry Division of the United States Army.Batman was Ivan's chosen super hero, but to those in his life, Ivan's heart and love of everyone made him their superhero. He spread his positive attitude to everyone he ever met through his love, his friendship, and his Mormon Mission to Atlanta, Georgia.Doing things his own way was a hallmark of Ivan's personality, and loving the Boston Celtics, good natured, very competitive taunting while playing cards, and grinning at the idea of the "more fun path", allowed him plenty of material with which he could make his family and friends laugh. The sounds of the ukulele and the taste of hot sauce will always remind loved ones of Ivan and his love of his Tongan and Mexican heritages.Memories of Ivan will continue his legacy of being the, "light in the darkness" to his many friends and family, especially including his parents, Tevita and Angie Mafi of Falcon, Colorado; siblings, Isaia (Makyla Goudie) and Sela Mafi of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandparents, Tevita S. and Siosiane T. Mafi of Bountiful, Utah, Catarino L. Barba of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Reyna Isabel Noriega of Calexico, California; many aunts and uncles; cousins; and countless friends.Visitation, 9:00AM-10:00AM, Friday, March 2, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13210 Bandanero Drive, Peyton, Colorado 80831.Funeral Service, 10:00AM, Friday, March 2, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13210 Bandanero Drive, Peyton, Colorado 80831.Graveside Service, 2:00PM, Friday, March 2, 2018 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard Denver, Colorado 80235.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ivan's memory to stopsoldiersuicide.org
