I spent time in Colorado Springs with Carroll and Rita several different times. One time when I was in college our band travelled to Colorado on band tour and when I called Carroll and Rita to tell them that I was in town, they came and got me and let me stay with them instead of my going to the host house I had originally been assigned to. We went bowling and I had the best game I've ever bowled. I figured maybe it had something to do with the altitude.... And one summer before I went to college I went out and spent a couple of weeks with Carroll and Rita. Carroll had a squirrel out in the back yard that would come up and eat from his hand. Carroll and Rita traveled to Lincoln for my wedding in 1985 and surprised me because I hadn't known they were coming. When I lived in Boston, they came and visited shortly after my son Alex was born. Then one time when I was fishing out at Mormon Island, I looked up at some people walking by and it was them! They were staying at the hotel next to Mormon Island while traveling through the area and just happened to talk a walk through the recreation area where Alex and Terry and I were fishing! When Rita passed away I was on vacation with Terry and Alex in St. Louis and didn't learn of it until after it was too late to attend her services. I never met Lorraine but was happy that Carroll had found someone to enjoy the rest of his life with. He was a good man....... When I last saw him it was at Arvid's funeral. Carroll made the comment that everybody but him looked like they were aging quite a bit! LOL!

Carroll will be dearly missed by his niece, Cindy Giles (Marjorie Sorensen) and son Mark Allen. Carroll and Rita came to Canon City quite often to share pizza and a great visit. Later, we met Lorraine who was such fun to tell the stories of their travels. It was an honor to share those precious moments. When he met my husband, Roger Thomas and son, Jeffrey he actually approved! Carroll loved to share his memories of time spent while he was in the military and the reunions he attended. It was a bittersweet moment when I held Carroll's hand, and watched him take his last breath from this world to the next. I will sincerely miss our times together.
