Obituary of Howard Mills Smith

Howard Mills Smith, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1997 and formerly of Dumas, Texas and Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018 at his home in Colorado Springs after a long illness. He was a retired mortgage lender who was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.Howard was born on March 15, 1947 in Borger, Texas to the late Oscar and Gertrude (Sweeney) Smith. He was raised in Phillips, Texas and graduated from high school there in 1965. He then went on to Texas Tech and graduated in 1969. He married Gaynelle Tiner on October 22, 1977 in Dumas. He raised a family and enjoyed Broncos football, golf, and his hobby of building and flying radio controlled model airplanes.Howard worked for North Savings and Loan in Dumas, Texas from 1965 until 1995. He then moved to Alamogordo and worked for a Savings and Loan Corporation. He later moved to Colorado Springs and worked for Rocky Mountain Bank and Trust and Aventa Credit Union, and then retired.He is survived by his loving wife, Gaynelle; his daughter, Melissa (Greg) Legleiter of Manhattan, Kansas; his stepson, Ryan (Christine) Hill of Albany, Oregon; his brother, Owen (Ruth Ann) Smith of Denver, Colorado; and his sister, Naomi McGuire of Lubbock, Texas.
