Obituary of Donald "Don" Lee McCaleb

Donald "Don"�Lee McCaleb�died�peacefully�at home on�April 17, 2018 in�Colorado Springs, Colorado�at the age of�86.Don was born on�August 28, 1931�in�Enid, Oklahoma,�to�Roy Eldon and Evelyn Dorthea McCaleb. He graduated from Enid High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. While stationed at Hamilton AFB in California, he met Barbara May at the Nazarene Church in San Anselmo, California. They were married on July 14, 1953, and Don completed his military service later that year. He attended Pasadena City College and California State University, Los Angeles, and�graduated�with a degree in�Journalism.�He began a long and productive career in communications, which included early roles with Billy Graham Films and California State, Los Angeles. Don found the ideal long-term fit for his talents in the Public Affairs department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He served there from 1962 until he retired in 1991. He loved the University, its Mustang sports teams, and its learn-by-doing approach to higher education. Don found his hope and trust in Jesus and placed a high value on serving others. Over the decades he spent countless hours volunteering at the San Luis Obispo Church of the Nazarene. He also volunteered regularly at the Kiwanis Club of San Luis Obispo, the California Scholastic Press Association, and the SLO Blues Baseball team.Don�loved his family deeply. He is survived by�his wife, Barbara McCaleb; brother, Bruce (Lynda) McCaleb; sisters, Joanna and Sara McCaleb; daughter, Sandra (Gregg Howard) Weldon; son, Don (Dawn) McCaleb; grandsons, J.J. Weldon and Curtis Weldon; granddaughters, Rachel Weldon, Brynn (Dan) Haynam, and Paige McCaleb; and great-grandsons, Jace and Josiah. He�is preceded in death by�his sister, Beth Kubach.A celebration of Don's life is scheduled at�Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
