Obituary of SMSgt. John Robert Stewart Kelley, USAF,
John Robert Stewart Kelley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, age 78, passed away on April 18, 2018 comfortably in his home. John was born to parents Stuart Robert Victor and Constance Kelly in Fort Fairfield, Maine on February 22, 1940. John was raised on Vancouver Island, Canada, and graduated from Mount Newton High School. John married Cathleen Loeppky in 1968 and had his only child, Scott, in 1971.John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961 as a weather forecaster. His tours included Vietnam and Turkey. He served twenty-six years in the USAF and was honorably discharged as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1987. John returned to school after retirement and became a Physical Therapist Assistant. He worked in this second career for fifteen years until 2006 when he retired in Colorado Springs. On his retirement, he explored his creative side, creating stained glass stepping stones and making beautiful glass jewelry, much of which was donated in local charity fundraisers."My dad always gave of himself. He gave to his country, he gave to the community, to the people he worked with, and above all he gave to his family. He touched many lives, we were blessed to have him. I know I can never be the man he was, but I hope to make him proud," states John's son, Scott.John will be loved and missed by surviving wife, Cathleen; son, Scott (Lisa); and his siblings, Carter (Linda) Kelly, Colleen (Gary Wessel) Kelly, Ian Kelly, and Selena Kelly; along with several nieces.At John's request, there will be no viewing. Services will be held at a later date on Vancouver Island near his childhood home. The family is grateful for condolences, requesting that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
