Obituary of Shirley Lavone Mathis

Shirley (Ms. Shirley) Mathis departed this life on May 11, 2018 after a long illness. Shirley was known for her determination and her care for others. She loved children and had an established nursery in her home for several years. Many of those children have come to visit her years after they left "Ms. Shirley's Nursery." She had a spirit that gave her sincere desire to care for the elderly and the home bound. She was a registered Certified Nurse's Aide and she spent several years caring for home bound patients. She loved nature and took every opportunity to feed the deer, fox, and squirrels. She was faithful in her service to the church and she dearly loved her "Pastor." Ms. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Levolia and Bonnie (Murphy) Hayes; a brother: Levolia Hayes Jr.; a baby sister, Mattie Ree Hayes; and a brother-in-law: Jerry Ford. She leaves to remember her two daughters; Doniella (Dave) McLeod of Montana and Donschlotte (John) Mathis of Colorado Springs; two sisters, Bonnie Ford of New Jersey, Denver Hayes of Colorado Springs; one brother, Larrie Hayes of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Saturday, May 19, 2018, New Vision Christian Center, 254 South Academy Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
