Just learned of her death through Columbia College. We were grad students at Mizzou in the '70s and a group of us used to get together at the Heidelberg at the end of the day. We had mutual friends, and I was absolutely smitten with her - but I never asked her out. I headed east to Chicago and DC, and she headed west. I never forgot her, and she remains to this day the one person I wish I had gotten to know better. I think the reason I did not ask her out was that she might decline, and that could make things awkward in our little group. I valued her friendship that much. If God granted us "do-overs"... I taught with Marla at Falcon Elementary. She was always kind and caring both to the community she served as well as the students who needed her guidance to get them through whatever issues they had. She was fun to be with and I never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. I am really glad I had the opportunity to know her. I'm sure she will be missed greatly by family and friends.
