Obituary of Dorothy Susan Cavin

Dorothy Susan Cavin was age 71 when she passed from this earth. She was a resident of Monument, Colorado. She was born in Amarillo, Texas on her dad's birthday (and George Washington's) - February 22, 1947. She died on August 24, 2018.After marrying Alan in 1968, they moved to Irving, Texas for Alan's work and she was reunited with her maternal grandmother and worked in her Dallas cake shop several summers. She taught elementary school for a few years before deciding to focus on raising her children (Sheri, Julie, and Drew). Years later, she worked in the telecom industry and a mail order pharmacy. After Sheri was killed in a traffic accident in 1993, she returned to her first love which was caring for children. She began nannying and continued that for many years.During the time in Texas, she enjoyed many opportunities to go camping with a group at church. She also learned to snow ski and had many wonderful trips to Colorado camping and skiing with family and friends. She made many lasting friendships and influenced a lot of lives during that time. In 1997, Alan and Susan embarked on an adventure that fulfilled a long-time dream to move to Colorado. Susan continued her nanny work until 2006 when she began substitute teaching. A few years later she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She spent several years having surgeries and radiation but eventually became paralyzed on her left side and could no longer function on her own. She spent the last six years of her life at The Medallion Villas retirement community.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheri Lynnette Cavin; her mother, Helen Stallings Watts of Hurst, Texas; her father, Walter Watts of Hurst, Texas; and her sister, Beama Louise Kapur of Winter Park, Florida.She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Alan Cavin of Monument, Colorado; a brother, Walter Lee Watts of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Julie Ann Peveto of Chester, New Jersey; and a son, Drew Alan Cavin of Monument, Colorado.Celebration of Life, 1:30PM, Wednesday, August 29, 2018, Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 East Woodmen Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919.Private burial, 10:30AM, Friday, September 7, 2018, Irving Texas.
