Obituary of Dale Leon Bockhahn

Dale Leon Bockhahn, 84, was born November 17, 1933 in Grand Island, Nebraska to the late Gayland and Verneta Bockhahn as the oldest of six children. Dale entered eternal life peacefully in his sleep on October 11, 2018 in the loving care of Broadmoor Court Assisted Living, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.Dale was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church from 1975 until 1997, where he was on the bowling team, a regular counter, usher and reader. Dale became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in 1997. Dale enjoyed bible studies, ushering, and many other activities at Holy Cross. Dale was active in the community as a Sertoma member. He joined the Elks Club in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1958 keeping his membership active through 2016 and was a Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation lifetime member.Dale spent his childhood on a ranch near Alzada, Montana where his dad was the ranch foreman. Dale grew up a cowboy and loved to ride horses. One of his most frightening experiences as a young boy was when he got caught in a thunderstorm while riding in the woods miles from his home. He said the horse wasn't afraid and took him home. Dale's family moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska when he was in high school. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1951. He went to work for Swift and Company where he learned to be a meat cutter. One day a salesman for Swift asked him if he would like to be a sales representative for the company and he said he would. Dale enjoyed being a salesman. Dale loved the freedom of the road, setting his own schedule and interacting with people. He worked primarily in the food industry for Armor, Archway, Keebler and Durkee. He completed the Dale Carnegie course earning various achievement awards. Dale met the love of his life, Norma Gompert, in 1952. Dale proposed to Norma on Halloween and they got married June 21, 1953. Dale was 19 and Norma was 17. Dale told everyone that they grew up together. Dale and Norma enjoyed taking road trips with Norma's sister and brother-in-law. They saw much of the west and midwest. Dale loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His skill as a meat cutter enabled him to process the deer and elk that he brought home. Dale also enjoyed golfing and got a hole-in-one in 1975 at the Cimarron golf course where he received a trophy. Dale did all of the upgrading, remodeling, and landscaping of the family home by himself. He also enjoyed cooking and kept a binder of recipes. Dale was hard-working both at work and at home. Dale was a loving husband who was devoted to his wife to the very end. Dale was deeply saddened at the loss of his wife in 2017 and he wanted to join her in eternal life essentially succumbing to heart failure, perhaps a broken heart. He was a devoted father who was always there for his children. Dale had a wonderful sense of humor and often had a joke to share, bringing joy to others. He does not want us to be sad, he wants us to be happy that he is with the Lord and all of his worldly strife is replaced with eternal praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ.Dale is survived by his daughters, Dailynn Bockhahn of Divide, and Lynda (Tom Sr.) Baker of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Natalie Mutch, Jennifer Baker, Tom Jr. (Suly) Baker, Heidi Baker, and Hannah Baker; five great-grandchildren, Jey Mutch, Athena Reed, Ashley Escobar, Sherly Escobar and Raymond Baker; two sisters, Gaylene Henson, Marlys Indelicato; two brothers Al Bockhahn and Gayland Bockhahn II; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
