Obituary of Lt. Col. Allen Eugene Rose, USAF

Allen Eugene Rose, 75, died November 8, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born June 16, 1943 in Blue Hill, Nebraska to Andrew George and Evelyn Alvina Rose.Al was a decorated command pilot in the USAF. After graduation from the University of Nebraska and being commissioned in 1967, he attended USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training after which he spent two years as a T-37 Flight Instructor at Moody AFB, GA. He then went on to serve in various Personnel Programs Staff, Air Operations and Executive Support staff positions before being reassigned to the C-130 transport aircraft in the early 1970s. He proudly flew the "Mighty Herc" on various combat support missions throughout the entire Southeast Asian theater. With the Vietnam War winding down, Al was reassigned to the Directorate of Operations at the USAF Academy where he supported a myriad of cadet aviation related programs. Following his Academy assignment, Al returned to flying European and Middle East support missions from Little Rock AFB, AR. In the early 1980's, he returned to Colorado Springs to serve as a Space Operations Officer at HQ NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain. Following separation from the USAF in 1989, he went on to serve as a military contractor for several years. Al married Janice Ruth Hornbostel (a registered nurse from nearby Deshler, Nebraska) on March 16, 1967. He loved sharing a daily glass of wine (or two!) and fresh bowl of popcorn with her. He and Jan were notorious ringleaders of a neighborhood group of rowdies that hosted many a party for friends and neighbors in Arkansas. He was always happy, charitable, and respectful of others. He was also a loving mentor to his children and grandchildren and could capture a room with his witty dry sense of humor. Allen loved his yellow '71 Volkswagen Bug as much as he loved flying. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, and will be fondly remembered as an amazing husband, dad and "Papa".Al is preceded in death by his wife, Jan Rose who passed just a little over a month before him (October 1, 2018); and his parents. He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Rodney) Trusdle and Amy Rose; three grandsons, Jacob Trusdle, Logan Trusdle and Brandon Rose; three granddaughters, Asha Rose, Alexis (Nahshon) Bobonagua and Alivea Rose; brother, Robert (Carol) Rose; and sister, Elaine Southerland.Memorial Service with Full Military Honors, 10:00AM, Monday, November 19, 2018, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.Private Inurnment, Friday, November 30, 2018, Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
